Students are provided with a wide range of fundamental principles relating to industry practices and procedures including occupational health and safety, repairs, testing and inspections of automotive mechanical components. 

Students will be taught to service, repair and diagnose faults in motor vehicles weighing up to 4.5 tonnes and are also taught how to diagnose, service, repair and faults in light vehicle engines, transmission, suspension, steering, brake, electrical systems and components. The structure of the course gives students a sound understanding of the vehicles' construction, component identification and operating principles.

Career prospects include being able to apply for trade recognition as an Automotive Mechanic in Australia. Other areas of employment in automotive include vehicle repairs and servicing, tyre fitting etc.

The Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle) is designed to provide students with suitable skills in the Automotive Trade. The course also provides exposure to workshop practices and procedures, allowing opportunities for students to enter at entry level in the Automotive Industry. This course includes both theoretical and practical components of training in automotive (Light Vehicle).  Students will be taught various using a variety of different methods and be shown job specific skills that will prepare them for effective work in a workshop.

     

As vocational placement forms an essential part of competency based assessment and provides the student with practical job skills and work experience, practical sessions may be replaced with vocational placement when available. Therefore, the times for the practical sessions may vary to include evenings at times to be advised.
