Imagine Hosts Hosen College of Childhood Education

11 September 18

On September 1st 2018, Imagine Education welcomed 13 students and four Professors and Tour Coordinators from Hosen College of Childhood Education. The Japanese group were here for seven days, giving them the opportunity to experience life at Imagine Education, volunteer at an Australian childcare centre, and also explore the beautiful Gold Coast.

Over their time here the students have attended General English classes held at our Main Campus, and have also spent time learning about Australian early childhood centres. The students have gained valuable practical experience by volunteering at both early childhood centres integrated with Imagine and other nearby centres, engaging with the children, and observing staff practices.

Participating in an Early Childhood Workshop held by Imagine Education Faculty of Chilldren’s Services trainer, Kirsty McGuire, has also been a highlight. During the workshop the students were introduced to Australian animals through early childhood activities. These included creating koalas with paint and their feet, singing songs about Australian animals, and acting out a children’s yoga story. The students were also introduced to one of Australian children’s favourite bands, the Wiggles, and all enthusiastically danced to the group’s hit song, Romp Bomp a Stomp.

Over their week here the group were also given time immerse themselves in Australian culture and they attended an Aboriginal Cultural Session. Scheduled activities and free time also allowed them to experience the beautiful Gold Coast, including a very enjoyable visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to see native Australian wildlife such as kangaroos and koala bears.

The students really enjoyed their time at Imagine and also enjoyed learning about, and experiencing, childcare work in an Australian environment. The students performed a wonderful presentation for the children and teachers at the childcare centre at the end of their time there, wand this was thoroughly enjoyed by all who watched and took part.

Imagine Education would like to thank the students, Professors, and Tour Coordinators from Hosen College of Childhood Education for being such a wonderful group to host. We were honoured to have them with us over the week they were here. This was Imagine’s fifth time hosting this group, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Hosen and hosting them again in the future.
